EP 061: Business Q&A

I want to share an incredible moment I had yesterday.
It has to be one of the strongest and most impactful moments of my life.

I needed to be in the city yesterday for an interview.

As I’m going to be featured in a book on the topic of how business owners have a huge advantage when it comes to investing.

I’ll mention more about the book in future emails.
But I want to share this story with you.

Anyhow,

I needed to be in the city at 10 am yesterday.

It normally takes me about 30 min to get to the city via train.
Rather than leave at 9:30, I decided to take the opportunity to get into the city earlier.

I wanted to see what peak hour was like in Melbourne CBD these days.

To see the huge numbers of people in suits and construction workers in high vis tops getting into their day.

I was curious if the energy of Melbourne was back after recent years, or is it a ghost town these days?

And Melbourne didn’t disappoint.

I caught the train to flinders street station at 8:30 am
( A full hour earlier than needed and right on peak hour. )

I grabbed a coffee near the station and began walking slowly up Elizabeth Street towards where the interview was being held later that day.

As I watched the people around me, I noticed a few things.

– they were all addicted to their phones

– most were rushing and aggressively walking through each other

– 99% of people looked unhappy, and that they would prefer to be somewhere else

– no one (apart from me) noticed what a beautiful day it was

And then it hit me.

That’s not my life.
I’m free from that.

I’m not plugged into that system anymore.

And while I have known that logically for some time, this was the first time I truly felt it.

I felt like Neo in the first Matrix movie.
That scene where he is walking up the street with the girl in the red dress.

That deep realisation that he is no longer plugged in.
That he is no longer a slave to that system.

The reason I started a business was to have this level of freedom, and now I do.
Which I’m incredibly grateful for.

I want every business owner to have that moment in their own journey.

Anyhow,

This week on the podcast, Grant and I are doing some Q&A.
Covering questions from the community (Yes, you.)

My favourite question on this round was:
“What does a healthy business look like?”
