However, DMT alone is psychoactive when administered parenterally, thereby avoiding enteral and hepatic first-pass metabolism. Several studies have investigated the acute effects of DMT alone when administered intravenously [3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10], intramuscularly [11,12,13,14], and by inhalation [2]. These forms of administration allow the use and study of DMT alone without potentially additive psychoactive effects of MAO inhibitors.
